With existing carbon intensity databases supportive for the systems carbon account extensively reviewed, the basic scheme and algorithm for multi-scale input–output analysis for emission intensities are presented for the construction of more consistent carbon intensity databases for the globalized economies characterized by multi-scales. Besides for post-assessment of life-cycle performance of building, the multi-scale consistent databases with extensive coverage in both scales and objectives are useful to compare the carbon emissions embodied in substitutable materials from different sources, which is essential for low-carbon planning, procurement and supply chain design, and logistics management.
